An avant-garde art group "GUTAI", a group that created a new expression by denying all conventional expressions and materials, Tanaka is one of its main members. "GUTAI" is not sticking to the style, not to be caught by what influenced before, to work freely. However, for artists who grew up influenced by art schools, it is very difficult to get rid of the past and make new attempts. Tanaka broke though the past and embodied the spirit of concrete with the unconventional performance that the nine color light bulbs presented in 1956 wore the flickering light clothes. Tanaka's masterpiece work "Electric clothes" is still highly valued as one symbolizing concrete avant-garde spirit alongside Shiraga Kazuo’s "Sudden in Mud" and Murakami Saburo’s "Paper Break" etc. After that, Tanaka developed three dimensional performance "electric clothes" into a flat work, and this work is one of them. Consisted of a circle and a line corresponding to electric bulb and wiring of electric clothes, it made Tanaka change. From 1957, enamel paint was used for planar works; Enamel paint for Tanaka was a material consistent with the aiming expression. It realizes a more elegant, fading line that is more homogeneous than oil painting, further glossy and makes it possible to express electrical expressions on the plane.Lines connected as if to support it rather than being entangled in a circle, and it seems that the antagonizing relationship makes the screen full of fluid energy.
